A jaunty way to ferry the family on an outing or take some of your closest friends tailgating at the homecoming game, this 1958 Chevrolet Apache 30 is fitted with a short-wheelbase Wayne school bus body. The selling dealer says it was used as both a school and church bus in Wisconsin before being refurbished, with mild customization and a repaint that the selling dealer says is three years old. The Apache’s engine bay shows some dress-up items, and the bus body is reportedly stock except for an upgraded audio system.
The selling dealer states that the 235-cu.in. OHV inline-six in this Apache, which Chevrolet rated at 145 horsepower and 215 lb-ft of torque when new, is original to the vehicle, with no stated rebuild history. The engine is reported to start well when cold. The selling dealer reports that the four-speed manual transmission, reportedly sourced from a Chevrolet C30, pops out of fourth gear occasionally. The selling dealer is unaware of any significant power-train leaks. The engine bay shows chromed dress-up items and presents as largely clean.
The repaint, in school-bus yellow, is reported to be three years old and in “very good” overall condition, with some chipping observed. The selling dealer is unaware of any significant interior leaks. The seller states that there is “no rust” on the vehicle. The chromed grille and front bumper appear to be in very good condition. The seller reports some minor scratches on the glass, and states that all lights work. The underside appears to be generally clean, with scattered surface corrosion.
The driver’s seat, in black vinyl, and the passenger seats, in gray vinyl, look to be in very good condition, with no visible damage. The bus body has a wooden floor that appears to be in good condition, with no obvious damage. The bus roof is painted metal, with no headliner. The dashboard has what appears to be fresh paint. The seller states that the speedometer is inoperative. There is no air conditioning or heater. An aftermarket audio and video system has reportedly been installed.
The Apache has the transmission, differential, power steering, and front disc brakes from a Chevrolet C30 truck, per the seller. He makes no statement about the condition and functionality of the chassis components or brakes. The age of the mixed-brand tires (dual 5.5-16 on the rear, 6.5-16 on the front) is unstated, and DOT date codes are not visible in the images provided. The tires should be inspected before the bus is driven any distance. The wheels, chrome in back and yellow/chrome in front, show no damage.
