On the front of the engine you will find a partial VIN, identifying the model year and make of the car the engine came in from the factory.
If the last 6 digits are the same as on the car's VIN, the engine belongs to this car.
At the rear of the engine, on top of the bell housing (where the engine meets the transmission) you wil find the engine casting number.
On Chebby engines the ignition is in the wrong spot, so you need to look carefully to find this casting number.
