hello,i am peter from holland.
i,ve got a mercury cougar xr7 1976,orginal it was a 351w
it now has a cleveland 351 4v from a mustang from 1970
the c4 transmission was rebuilt,with a shifterkit
a standard converter was placed
the axle is a 9-inch with 2.75 gears

what is the best torque converter and gears for the differential?
the engine runs good ,but the car really isn,t that fast
engine was rebuilt in 2002 ,and the owner before me said it had 340 hp
(originally it had 300hp according to Ford)

I had a 69 Cougar Convertible w. a rebuilt, healthy 351 W and also
found out that the 2,75 rearend is a limting factor if it comes to have
real FUN - you know ?
I tryed 3,25 and was pretty satisfied !
This is a perfect over all ratio that also allowes you to climb up hills
without gear-down manually - SEE ?
But if you are focussed to keep up some top-speed and hills don´t
matter - better stay around 3,10 !

How was the engine tunend? Because a modified Cleveland allows you 700rpm, if it is more modified it can handle 8500 rpm to.
So a shorter rearaxle will override the lack in power in lower rpm. And you can still go fast on Highway if you turn your Cleve.
